Abstract :
This paper proposes a characterisation method of using electrical signal analysis to identify appliances. A low cost current sensor is used to measure an electrical load signal. The measured signal´s transient and steady states are analysed in both the temporal and frequency domains. A signature is then derived from this analysis. From the methods used in the paper it is shown that appliances can be clearly identified and classified.
