Abstract
Base station antennas for modem communication systems need omnidirectional as well as highly directive radiation patterns. These requirements can best be met by cylindrical structures, which allow large bandwidth and good polarisation quality when fed by aperture coupling. This contribution presents an analysis of cylindrical aperture coupled patch elements. By enforcing the boundary conditions at the feeding line, the patch and the aperture an integral equation system can be set up and solved using the method of moments technique. A brief outline of the solution is given. Results are presented and discussed.
