Abstract :
The survivability in optical networks can be classified as protection and restoration. This paper proposes a link weight based restoration technique which jointly considers the local and global wavelength availability along with the node degree in optical networks. While the information on wavelength availability reflects the dynamic state of the network, the topology of the optical networks has direct implications on the resource requirements. This paper aims to take the advantages of both the schemes to provide an effective restoration method in survivable optical networks. The performance characteristics are studied under realistic design scenario with irregular topology and arbitrary traffic demands. The performance evaluation is carried out in terms of capacity, port count and the distance traversed. The results manifest that the proposed approach outperforms the existing methods on link based restoration with minimum time complexity.
