Abstract :
The Ocean Status Information Management System (OSIMS) project is part of ongoing research at the College of Engineering of the University of Miami. This paper discusses environmental information and its efficient organization, management, and visualization, utilizing the World Wide Web (WWW). OSIMS consists of an internal database and complementary visualization tools. The eventual goal is to provide a powerful yet easy-to-use tool for archiving and visualizing historical and model-output data. The system is structured around an information hierarchy of concepts within the environmental domain
