Abstract :
Steady state photorefractive (PR) self focusing experiments in InP:Fe have been performed with the goal of identifying its potential for creation of self induced optical waveguides and subsequently using it for all optical routing applications. The temporal evolution of the PR related effects in the near IR using a beam focused to a 25 mum waist on the input face of a InP:Fe crystal is studied while imaging the output face on a position detector. PR associated phenomena (bending and self focusing) takes place in InP:Fe as fast as a mus for intensities on the order of 10 W/cm2 at 1.06 mum.
