Abstract :
Silicone rubber housed nonceramic insulators were studied after field aging in various service environments for periods of from 7 years to more than 10 years. The condition of the aged silicone rubber was compared to that of new material, focusing on the characteristics of hydrophobicity recovery and contaminant encapsulation by low molecular weight polymer. The field aged materials are shown to exhibit hydrophobicity characteristics comparable to those of new, unaged silicone rubber
