Abstract
Gathering and compiling information on the features and uses of the land within a proposed corridor provides the basis for selecting a route, obtaining easements, and designing and constructing a power transmission line. This paper gives an overview of the survey and mapping information that is required for transmission line projects, reviews the traditional techniques that have been employed to obtain and utilize this information and discusses the recent advances in the technology. Additionally, a system is presented that integrates the components in this process to achieve efficiency, minimize chances for errors and provide improved access to project information
