  • Abstract
XLNET is a fully distributed LAN that combines the advantages of a traditional PABX and a LAN. As such it has been conceived to meet the needs of a modern business in that it handles mixed traffic (voice, data, etc.) in a transparent way and that in a normal environment it is virtually outage free. There is currently a need to provide switching facilities that: could handle mixed traffic in a transparent way, be virtually outage free, and be capable of meeting the future as well as current business needs. XLNET has been conceived with these aspects in mind. It is a fault tolerant and rugged system that integrates a variety of services. Distributed architecture and integration of the switching is a feature of the XLNET. Integration occurs at all levels of the architecture using packet switching allowing system capacity to be dynamically shared among the users
