Abstract :
Segmentation of medical images plays a significant role in identifying the human anatomical shape and structure. This paper proposes a technique for segmenting the hippocampus (the subcortical structure in medial temporal lobe) from MRI of human brain. The proposed method employs mean filter, morphology based operations and edge detection using fuzzy logic. Experimental results show that our method can be used to detect hippocampal structure. It is found that the proposed method works well even for images with weak edge. The proposed method takes no more than 2 seconds for segmenting hippocampus.
