Abstract :
This paper presents a novel mobile computing guide for augmented reality visits in archaeological sites. We use a hybrid image tracking technique for the reconstruction of ruined ancient worlds in the context of their natural surroundings. Ancient life is revived and used to create high realism. The user´s profile and his position and orientation data are used to create personalized, augmented tours. The system, named ARCHEOGUIDE for Augmented Reality-based Cultural Heritage On-site GUIDE, has been tested with ordinary visitors, archaeologists and technology experts at the archaeological site of Olympia in Greece.
