Abstract
A combination of adaptive-rate Reed-Solomon (RS) coding and adaptive-power transmission is proposed for matching transmissions to the channel conditions in a mobile wireless slow-frequency-hop communication system. Examples are presented which illustrate when it is most beneficial to change the code rate rather than the power level and vice versa. Approaches for controlling the adaptive transmission system are suggested that use information from the RS decoder and receiver side information
