Abstract :
We examine the performance of several suboptimal soft decision Reed-Solomon decoding techniques over fading channels. Two new techniques are proposed: hypersphere decoding and reconfigurable trellis with adaptive reduced search decoding. It is shown that all of these techniques substantially improve the performance of RS codes when used over fading channels, with the latter of the proposed techniques being robust at various vehicle speeds
