Abstract
The inherent variable bit rate (VBR) nature of the video stream makes it difficult to achieve efficient resource reservation for a video server. On behalf of VBR data retrieval, a prefetch-buffering scheme is proposed to alleviate the irregular disk bandwidth utilization by fully utilizing the available buffer. Simulation results show that this prefetch-buffering with the initial delay of few seconds can improve the system capacity to a great extent
