Abstract
Output impedance matching of zero-bias millimeter-wave detector diodes is investigated in the context of THz communications sensors. More specifically, an active matching network, targeted to improve power reception in THz range incoherent AM demodulators, is developed. The active network is, then, combined with a practical THz envelope detector to illustrate the enhancement in baseband power reception and impedance bandwidth expansion, brought about by the proposed matching configuration. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate that performance of the active matching network is superior to that of conventional passive matching networks in terms of bandwidth and reception quality.
