Abstract
To study the distribution and seasonal variation of the Urban Heat Island (UHI) in Beijing, Land surface temperature (LST) was retrieved by the single channel algorithm, which developed by Jiménez-Muňoz and Sobrino, based on the HJ-1B IRS data in 2009. The LST was normalized and scaled into 5 grades to represent the different UHI intensity. The results show that the UHI effects is obvious in Beijing for all seasons, especially in summer and autumn. In addition, the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) was calculated to analyze the correlation between the LST and the vegetation cover. The results suggest they have an obvious linear and negative correlation.
