Abstract
In this paper, the theory of surface plasmon polaritons (SPP) generation is extended using the subluminal scheme to the case when the strip-like optical spot scans a finite distance on a semiconductor surface. It is shown that the proposed technique offers a flexible mechanism of controlling both the excited wavepacket spectral width and its central frequency, thus making this excitation scheme extremely promising for future THz surface spectroscopy applications. Finally, the optimal parameters maximizing the peak electric field in the generated SPP and the SPP energy are found.
