Abstract :
A nanometer antenna, which is a combination of a nanometer dipole element and an open or closed cylindrical active coated nano particle, is proposed and studied numerically. The corresponding passive nano-antenna shows strong radiated fields at its resonant frequency, which is fundamentally dependent on the size of the active nano-antenna. After a correction in size/wavelength for the presence of the gain medium to re-establish the resonance, the active nanometer antenna shows extremely good performance for the total radiated power at the resonance frequency, i.e., the scattering cross section maximum is -95 dBsm, about 55 dBsm above its non-resonant values.
