Abstract :
A planar monopole antenna for ultra wide band application is studied comprehensively in this paper. Firstly, based on the transmission line theory, the equivalent circuit model of the planar monopole antenna is presented according to the current distribution on the antenna. Some techniques to widen bandwidth of the antenna, like beveling and shorting post are discussed from a qualitatively point of view. A practical ultra wide band planar monopole antenna with beveling and shorting post is designed and fabricated. The simulated results show that the return loss and the radiation pattern agree well with measurements.
