  • Abstract
Cellular automata (CA) has been increasingly used to simulate complex urban system, but urban land price is usually not considered in the simulation. This research selected Shijiazhuang city as study area and established city scale expansion model under restriction of land price. Through geometric correction, band combination and unsupervised classification of Landsar TM data using ERDAS 8.7 software, land-use types were extracted. Conversion of land use types was realized by using loose coupling between GIS and CA, and by using the combination of VisualBasic with ArcObjects development tools. Using data conversion and editing tools, images can be displayed and output, which provides an effective virtual laboratory for land management, regional development and urban planning.
