Abstract :
A highly efficient and linear power amplifier has been developed for use in millimeter wave radio systems. Applications include Internet satellite terminals, broadband wireless communications and high-speed data links. By combining, at millimeter wave, traveling wave tube (TWT) based microwave power module (MPM) technology with an advanced predistortion linearizer (> 40 GHz operation), a high performance, low cost, small size and mass power amplifier has been achieved. This amplifier is referred to as an L-MMPM for linearized millimeter wave power module. It provides a peak power of 100 Watts in less than 100 cubic inches of volume (including power supply), and can produce a 10 Watt 64QAM signal with an adjacent channel power ratio (ACPR) of better than 45 dB at an overall efficiency greater than 10 percent.
