Drivers Status Monitor

We made a prototype rear-view mirror with a built in image sensor. Useful driver assistance systems must provide information and warnings that adapt to a driver´s status, such as awareness and attention levels. Image processing is one of the best approaches to monitor the driver´s status, however it is necessary to develop a suitable image sensor to acquire the driver´s image. Described in this paper, are superior characteristics of the prototype rear-view mirror that can acquire the driver´s image under several environments and the methods used to detect features of the driver´s status.
