Abstract :
In this paper we present the progress that we have made in developing 10PW capability for the Vulcan laser to produce pulses with focused intensities >1023 Wcm"2. This represents orders of magnitude increases in intensity currently available and will be achieved using the technique of optical parametric chirped pulse amplification1\´2. This project will last for four years and is structured in two phases. This power level will be delivered by generating pulses with >300J in 30fs.
