Abstract :
The longitudinal coupled bunch instability in the SLC damping rings is studied, as well as many possible cures are reviewed. The authors stress the passive damping cavities based on power considerations. The results of extensive evaluation and design studies done to make sure this will live up to expectations without causing adverse side effects are presented.<>
