Abstract :
Electromagnetic band gap (EBG) structures are widely used for improving the electromagnetic performance. Its surface wave forbidden frequency band and in-phase reflection frequency band are referred as work frequency band, whose properties are closely associated with the parameters of the EBG structure, such as substrate permittivity, substrate thickness, patch size, gap size, etc. This paper presents a detailed study with method of moment (MoM) on the effect of the parameters, and some EBG design guidelines have been obtained finally. The EBG ground plane application for low profile wire antennas is also investigated in finite element method (FEM). The result indicates that the EBG ground plane greatly improves the work efficiency of the wire antenna in a specific frequency band compared with the ordinary metal ground plane.
