Abstract :
A hybrid method for the full-wave efficient analysis of stepped horn antennas is presented. The internal part of the antenna, i.e. the step discontinuities extended from the antenna input to its aperture are analysed by a mode matching technique (MMT); the external part of the horn antenna is analysed by the generalised multipole technique (GMT). In this way it is feasible to take into account the real external shape of the antenna (by GMT) and also to analyse in an effient and accurate manner its inner part (by MMT). The hybrid method is applied to the case of stepped horn antennas with elliptical cross-sections; theoretical and experimental results are provided to confirm the validity of the proposed approach.
