Abstract :
The classical Kirchhoff approximation (KA) is modified by introducing the tapered plane wave which is usually used in the method of moment (MOM) for calculating electromagnetic scattering from rough sea surface into the classical KA to make the results by the KA have a high accuracy. Also the definition of the bistatic scattering coefficient of the modified KA and the MOM are unified. Then the electromagnetic scattering characteristic of the GPS signal from rough sea surface under low sea condition is studied by the modified KA and its empirical model of the scattering coefficient at the large scattering angle by interpolating the results calculated by the modified KA is constructed.
