Abstract :
We propose a video coding scheme based on the application of the wavelet transform, both in time and in space domain, using the lifting scheme to calculate the coefficients. The coefficients of the resulting 3D tree hierarchic structure are coded through the EZW 3D, followed by Huffman coding. The bit rate is scalable by adaptive thresholding. The structure of the codec and some experimental results are presented. Codec evaluation for different wavelet transforms is performed, and the computer time for a 550 MHz Pentium III PC implementation is discussed, also as the speed-up achieved with a TMS320C6201 DSP which can be used as a co-processor.
