Abstract
A fast technique for video segmentation based on interframe moving masks is presented. The applied procedure belongs to the semi-automatic pixel-based methods also called interactive or supervised techniques. In order to initialize the algorithm and let the automatic segmentation phase start, a certain amount of user intervention is required. As is well known, a pixel-based approach allows a very accurate edge extraction of the moving object. The main advantage of this single feature method is its capability to increase the algorithm computational speed, necessary for real-time applications. For this reason the method appears to be particularly suitable for videoconferences or videotelephone applications based on head and shoulders sequences acquired with static video capture devices.
