Abstract :
In this paper we survey some of the most prominent published literature in facial expression recognition system published in the last six years. This paper analyses the research work done so far, and tries to evaluate each on composite parameter basis that spans from performance to recognizing facial expressions. There is an attempt to estimate the best approach that could be used that satisfies all the indicated parameters. Also, a direction is sought for the future work based on new niche areas under the same. The importance of such work cannot be underestimated as for the disabled and the older ones, facial expression may remain the only mechanism to convey emotions in an automated manner. Also, the other practical uses that range a broad spectrum of our day-to-day lives.
