Abstract :
Rigorous full-wave modal analyses of a uniform microstrip on a UC-PBG ground plane are presented. Brillouin diagram clearly depicts various types of modes propagating in the UC-PBG structure, namely, forward and backward traveling waves in the passbands, and complex waves in the stopband. Oscillatory behavior of the complex waves is reported and discussed. The theoretical results also successfully explain formation of two passbands and its stopband in between.
