Abstract
Dealing with temporal aspects is one of the essential issues for the qualitative analysis of dynamic system behavior. This paper focuses on the recognition of situations defined by qualitative temporal relations in an incoming stream of quantitative sensor readings. We present an effective incremental recognition method based on hierarchical event structures and an algebraic treatment of temporal relations. The techniques are illustrated using example problems from the domain of driverless transport systems
