Abstract :
Quality manufacturing is very important in order to increase the steel industry´s competitiveness. For this reason, steel companies have been investigating ways to manufacture higher quality products. The authors have developed a system which is able to detect and measure flatness defects in rolling steel products. The system, which is not destructive, is made to be placed in hot strip mills, after the last rolling stand. It is based on laser-optical principles, using lasers, line scan cameras and industrial computers
