Abstract
The Inset Dielectric Guide (IDG) is a low loss transmission line, but the performance of discontinuities and matching elements has received little attention in the past. In this paper we examine the iris discontinuity in IDG using the Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) technique and make experimental comparisons. The analysis compares well with measurement. The properties of the iris are identified, and example irises suitable for use as matching elements or radiative antenna elements are shown.
