Abstract
This paper sets out to describe the development, function and operation of a design by manufacturing simulation system. The construction of a geometric modeller with its attendant object indexing and interaction detection modules is described. An automatic finite element meshing system is reported which allows a physical model to be fully embedded within the system. An interaction rule base is developed as an interface between the physical and geometric models
