Abstract
This paper deals with the inference mechanism in fuzzy systems, especially in the field of fuzzy control. Starting from Zadeh´s compositional rule of inference, the principles are discussed with the aim to find an appropriate inference strategy being a generalization of the binary case. An advanced inference and defuzzification strategy is derived which is based on minimizing an appropriate error function
