Abstract :
A comparison of incorporation schemes of dissipation in the FDTD analysis of transmission lines using stability analysis is described. In the leapfrog type FDTD method, the calculation points of the voltage and the current are different in the time space. Therefore, how dissipation is included in the update equation becomes a problem. We find that incorporation of dissipation by using average value is more stable and lower numerical dispersion than that of Yee when discretization interval is large. Oppositely, Yee´s scheme is more accurate in case of discretization interval is small. This is confirmed from the accuracy in numerical analysis of pulse responses.
