Abstract :
Variable voltage variable frequency (VVVF) drive technology has been widely used in the elevator industry since the 1980s. In the early 1990s, the vector controlled VVVF drive was introduced from Japan and it is now very popular due to the excellent riding comfort for passengers as well as the fast response rate during normal operation. A computer simulation of vector and scalar controlled VVVF drive has been carried out on a standard induction machine elevator drive dynamic model under pulse width modulated AC supply and comparison of their performance is made. From the simulation results, the applicability of the vector control principle can be studied so that improvement can be made to enhance such a system
