Abstract
This paper discusses the design of a network management system (NMS) that supports QoS in IP networks and presents initial prototyping results of the proposed design. The proposed NMS architecture uses the evolving differentiated services paradigm and provides end-to-end QoS for IP based applications. The novel aspects of the proposed architecture are that it uses a collection of mechanisms including separate network capacity provisioning for different types of traffic, flow level admission control and bandwidth management by management systems that interact only with edge routers, policing in edge and border routers, and effective use of network capabilities by the middleware in end systems. The proposed management system design is scalable to large-scale multidomain IP networks
