Abstract :
Operational experience with a Canadian satellite-based communications network over a 6 year period is described. The paper shows how the initial design evolved to suit the customer needs. Changes of satellites and cases of both natural and man-made interference, were encountered. The performance is given in terms of the long-term availability. The conclusion is reached that a network of this nature is not static and that engineering guidance is regularly required
