Abstract :
In this paper, we proposed a cross layer selective approach for wireless image transmission system over fading channels. We extract the key information of the image first and transmit the key information over good channel condition to ensure that most of the errors are shifted to the elementary part of the image. Exact relationship between SNR and Peak SNR (PSNR) of the received image is presented. Simulations are conducted with different Signal To Noise Ratios (SNR) and different thresholds. It is shown that the proposed approach can significantly improve the transmission quality. For example, at SNR=5 dB with Rayleigh flat fading channel with BPSK, the peak SNR of the received image transmitted by the proposed approach has a gain of 7 dB over the normal approach.
