Abstract
Cell objects extraction is an important step for the phytoplankton identification. This paper presents a new method to extract the phytoplankton cell from a microscopic image with noises of impurities and sands. The method proposed analyzes the eight-direction projections of the cell´s binary images to fix the cell´s position and extract it. This new approach has been adopted by a phytoplankton identification system and can also be used for other systems with the same purpose.
