  • Abstract
    This paper introduced a new kind of high bit rate laser diodes´ driver. With silicon bipolar microwave transistors (NEC 3358, ft ≈7 GHz) as active devices, the driver can provide high speed current drive for laser diodes with bit rates up to 622 Mbits/s. The driver´s modulation and pre-bias current are about 25 mA and 50 mA, respectively. We used the drivers in a WDM optical fiber communication system, which has four 622 Mbits/s channels, eight 140 Mbits/s channels, 3 EDFAs and 251.6 km of single mode optical fiber. The bit error rates of all the four 622 Mbits/s channels are better than 1×10-13
