Abstract :
We apply marker codes to differential pulse-position modulation (DPPM) for wireless infrared communications in order to correct insertion/deletion errors. We present the encoder and decoder algorithms, and investigate the performance using both analysis and simulation. Over a non-dispersive channel, DPPM with marker coding yields better power efficiency than uncoded DPPM. For 2-DPPM and 4-DPPM, the longer the marker, the higher the power efficiency that can be achieved. On the other hand, there is little improvement with a long marker for 8-DPPM and 16-DPPM.
