Abstract :
This paper presents the control of a deformable mirror for an adaptive optics system that is implemented at the University of Victoria. A discussion of sample point lay out to detect a 2D polynomial is provided. This includes the generating functions for this polynomial and a coherent representation as a matrix of functions. The controlled system and sensor are both configured as 2D grids. The use of orthogonal shapes (modes) is discussed as a solution to this 2D control problem. The use of this modal approach to this configuration reduces the problem to that of many parallel and identical single input single output control problems. Data demonstrating the similarity between the real performance of the system to that of the SISO model is presented.
