Abstract :
Wireless sensor network (WSN) provides a reliable solution for the smart grid´s end-user metering, control, and communication. In this paper, we consider the wireless sensor network as the communication infrastructure for smart grid implementation in buildings. We present a scheme for the wireless sensor network deployment in buildings, in which sensors are massively placed to meter electricity consumption and collect illumination, thermal, pressure information; and multiple base stations are available to connect with the communication network for power grid distribution network. This scheme identifies the specific requirements of metering and control in buildings, provides optimal deployment of WSN, and utilizes simulation tool to simulate building environment and test optimal deployed WSN. We take the deployment of relay nodes to consist a WSN in buildings as an example to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed scheme. For the relay nodes deployment instance, we propose integer programming approaches for both deterministic and robust cases and utilize the simulation to validate and test optimal deployed WSN.
