Abstract
This paper presents a technique for determining the locations of balanced and unbalanced faults on transmission lines. The EMTP was used to simulate faults on a six bus model of the SaskPower transmission network. Data from the simulations was used to test the technique. While the proposed technique can be used for determining fault locations, it can also be used in conjunction with other fault location techniques for increasing the security of the results. Results of the studies conducted so far indicate that the proposed technique can locate faults with reasonable accuracy. In addition to the description of the technique, some results are also included in the paper
