Abstract :
Monolithic integrated power ICs have been used in many fields. The switching loss of power MOSFET in these ICs is attributed the major part of the loss and determines the whole efficiency of the chip. A segmented output stage with a simple controller which can improve the converter efficiency of power ICs was proposed in this paper. A buck DC-DC converter with segmented output stage was implemented in a 0.5μm BCD process. The delivery efficiency of the converter can be improved about 8.83% under 5V supply and 26.46% under 3.3V supply.
