Abstract :
This paper describes an integrated environment for the topological design of packet-switched computer networks. Based on artificial intelligence techniques, this system called SIDRO integrates four main modules: an initial topology generator, an example generator, an inductive learning module and a user interface module. Such a system is suitable for designing large scale data switching computer networks, in the sense that it ensures a high degree of reliability. One of the most significant contributions of SIDRO consists of a three level characterization of network topologies, leading to some topological features or descriptors which allow the building and application efficient rules for the reduction of total link cost of network topologies
