Abstract
An integrated system providing the features of both expanded measurement and data capture coupled with local processing can be of significant benefit to the utility. This type of integrated system is a cost-effective means of providing enhanced data flow within the utility, allowing utility personnel to obtain a detailed profile of the distribution system and to implement cost-saving procedures. The authors describe the design of such an integrated substation measurement and data acquisition system, as well as demonstrate how this integrated approach can improve the data flow within the utility. More precise measurement information can give a clearer picture of power system performance and ultimately help attain improved efficiency
