Abstract :
The status of H/sup -/ ion source development is reviewed. Advances in both surface- and volume-production H/sup -/ sources are noted. It is shown that high-brightness H/sup -/ beams are generated by ion sources which utilize both surface and volume production processes. Most hybrid sources are capable of producing high current densities of low-temperature H/sup -/ ions.<>
